Lacquered Wood Two-Tier Boxes

Two-tier boxes in lacquered wood, made to your dimensions and your logo. A rigid shell lets the upper tray sit on a machined ledge rather than on a built-up step, so it drops in squarely every time. It is the cleanest two-tier action we make.

What this construction is

A two-tier box has a removable upper tray sitting above a lower compartment, so a set is shown in layers rather than crowded onto one surface. Lifting the top tray is the second half of the reveal.

Lacquered wood on this construction, specifically

A rigid shell lets the upper tray sit on a machined ledge rather than on a built-up step, so it drops in squarely every time. It is the cleanest two-tier action we make.

Getting the fit right

The upper tray needs a finger recess or a ribbon pull, and the lower compartment has to be deep enough that the tray does not sit on the pieces below it. Both are easy to get wrong on a drawing and obvious on a sample.

The mistake to avoid

A tray with nothing to lift it by is the standard fault. Customers end up tipping the box out, which is the opposite of what a two-tier box is for.

Where it is used

Bridal and gift sets, watch-and-strap sets, and any programme where a customer receives several pieces that should not be seen all at once.

Why lacquered wood

A wood carcass built up in layers of lacquer and polished back to a piano finish. This is the heaviest and most formal thing we make.

Putting your logo on lacquered wood

Lacquer is engraved, or carries an inlaid metal plate. Foil does not bond reliably to a polished lacquer surface.

Cutting the interior in lacquered wood

The interior is a separate lined tray dropped into the carcass, so the lining material is chosen independently of the shell.

Dust with a dry microfibre cloth. Polish only with a product made for lacquer.
