A magnetic flap box has a lid that folds over the front and holds shut on a hidden magnet, with no visible catch anywhere. It is the cleanest closure line available and it holds firmly in a bag or a mailer.

A rigid lid does not fold, so a magnetic closure on a lacquered box holds a hinged lid shut rather than a flap. It is a different thing from a flap box and worth being clear about at briefing.
Getting the fit right
Magnet strength is matched to the weight and length of the flap. A long flap needs two magnets spaced apart rather than one strong one in the middle, or the corners lift while the centre holds.
The mistake to avoid
Magnets set too close to the surface show as a bump through a thin covering. It is caught on the sample, and it is the reason the covering material has to be decided before the magnet position is fixed.

Why lacquered wood
A wood carcass built up in layers of lacquer and polished back to a piano finish. This is the heaviest and most formal thing we make.
Putting your logo on lacquered wood
Lacquer is engraved, or carries an inlaid metal plate. Foil does not bond reliably to a polished lacquer surface.
Cutting the interior in lacquered wood
The interior is a separate lined tray dropped into the carcass, so the lining material is chosen independently of the shell.
Dust with a dry microfibre cloth. Polish only with a product made for lacquer.
