The piece
Dimensions of the item, including the height of any setting — that last one is what most briefs leave out and it is what decides lid clearance.
Better still, send the piece or a photograph of it next to a ruler. It answers questions a written dimension does not.
What the box is for
Opened once as a gift, kept for years on a dresser, opened daily in a shop, or posted. These are four different specifications and they change the hinge, the closure and the material before anything else is discussed.
Interior or exterior — which is fixed
Only one can be held tightly. If the interior must fit the piece exactly, the exterior floats by whatever the construction adds; if the exterior must fit a mailer or a carton, the interior takes the variation. Say which matters.
Colour and material
A Pantone number, a physical swatch or an existing box — not a description. And say which material, because the same reference reads differently on velvet and on paper.
Logo
Vector artwork, the size it will print at, and which method you have in mind if you have one. If you do not, we will propose one based on the material.
Quantity in mind
Not a commitment, just a rough scale. It changes what construction is sensible and whether a moulded part makes sense — and it is better said early than discovered late.
