Recycled and Responsible Options

More briefs now include a sustainability requirement, and most of them can be met. It is worth being clear about which parts of a box can change and which cannot, so the specification is honest.

Recycled board

The structural body of a rigid box is board, and recycled board is available for it. It is the single largest material by weight in most boxes, so changing it is the change that counts most.

Recycled board has a slightly different surface, which shows through a thin wrap. Where that matters we say so before you approve.

FSC paper and print

Wraps and printed cards can be specified on FSC-certified stock. Where the certification has to appear on the box, tell us at artwork stage so the mark is placed properly rather than added late.

Plastic-free interiors

Most interiors can be built from board and paper rather than from moulded plastic. A folded paper seat or a board-and-pad interior does the same job as a plastic tray for many pieces.

Where a piece genuinely needs a moulded seat — a watch cushion, a high-set ring — we will say so rather than pretend otherwise.

Textiles

Recycled-fibre linings exist and we can quote them. They handle slightly differently from conventional velvet and suede, so approve them on a physical swatch rather than on a description.

Being honest about it

A box is not made sustainable by a logo on the base. If you intend to make a claim on the packaging, make it about something specific and verifiable — recycled content, FSC stock, plastic-free interior — and we will supply what backs it up.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make a plastic-free box?

For many pieces, yes — board and paper interiors do the same job. Some pieces genuinely need a moulded seat and we will say so.

Do you offer FSC-certified paper?

Yes. Tell us at artwork stage if the mark has to appear on the box.

Is recycled board as strong?

For the constructions we use, yes. The visible difference is surface texture under a thin wrap, not strength.

Can you support a claim we make on the packaging?

Yes, where the claim is specific — recycled content, certified stock, plastic-free interior. We supply the documentation for what we make.
