Packaging for Repair Counters

A repair counter hands back a piece the customer already owns. There is nothing to sell, which is exactly why the packaging matters: it is the only new thing in the transaction.

Intake

A piece comes in, gets a docket and goes into the back. Intake housings need to be plain, uniform and labelled — and they need to hold a docket with the piece, not next to it.

Losing the pairing between a docket and a piece is the failure mode this packaging exists to prevent.

Return

The return box is the whole customer experience of a repair. A polished ring handed back in a branded box reads as a service; the same ring in a paper envelope reads as a transaction.

This box is kept, and it sits in a drawer with the customer's name on it for years. It is the cheapest advertising a service counter buys.

One box for everything

Repairs are whatever comes in. A single box with a plain pad, in one house colour, takes a ring, a chain or a watch and looks deliberate doing it.

A range of fitted boxes is the wrong answer here — it means the wrong box is always the one you have left.

Watch servicing

A serviced watch goes back with more paperwork than a repaired ring. Where watches are a real part of the work, a second box with a document recess is worth specifying.

Frequently asked questions

Can one box suit every repair?

Usually, with a plain pad interior. A fitted interior is where a single box stops being universal.

Can the intake housing hold the job docket?

Yes. Keeping the docket with the piece rather than beside it is the point of specifying it properly.

Is a branded return box worth it?

It is kept, often for years, with your name on it. For a service counter it is the cheapest advertising there is.

Do you supply single counters as well as chains?

Yes. Quantities are agreed per project.
