Outer Cartons and Shipping

The presentation box is not the shipping box, and treating it as one is how a beautiful box arrives dented. What goes around it is part of the specification.

Why the presentation box is not enough

A rigid jewellery box survives being handled; it does not survive being stacked, dropped or thrown, which is what a parcel network does. A hinged lid with an exposed edge scuffs first, and a soft-sided box arrives with a corner pushed in.

An outer carton absorbs that, and it costs a fraction of replacing the box.

Sizing the outer to the inner

The outer is sized from the wrapped presentation box, not from the drawing of it, and it needs enough clearance for whatever void fill is used. Too tight and the fill does nothing; too loose and the box travels inside it.

Branding the outer, or not

An unbranded outer carton is a security decision — a plain parcel is less interesting to steal than one that says what is inside. Many jewellery brands deliberately leave the outer plain and put all the branding on what is inside it.

Where the unboxing matters more than the discretion, the outer can be printed. That is a business decision rather than a packaging one, and it is worth making deliberately.

Mailer-sized presentation boxes

Where volume posting is the norm, the better answer is often to size the presentation box to a standard mailer rather than to add an outer. Tell us the mailer you use and we work the box back from its inside dimensions.

Export cartons

For a production run, the export carton is what the boxes ship in from us. If your cartons will be broken down and sent on to individual shops, tell us at quotation — it changes how the inner packing is planned.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an outer carton?

If the box is posted, almost always. A presentation box survives handling, not a parcel network.

Should the outer be branded?

A plain outer is the safer choice — a branded parcel advertises what is inside. It is a security decision rather than a design one.

Can you size a box to our mailer?

Yes. Send the mailer's inside dimensions and we work the box back from them.

Can you pack the run for onward shipment to our shops?

Yes, if you tell us at quotation. It changes how the inner cartons are planned.

Tell us what you need

Tell us the piece, your brand and the quantity you have in mind. We’ll send photos of our work and one clear, all-in quote.
