How strength is chosen
Strength is matched to the weight of the lid, not to a preference. A magnet strong enough to hold a heavy lacquered lid feels harsh on a light board lid, and one chosen for a light lid will let a heavy one drift open in transit.

Where the magnets sit
They are set into the board or the wall before the wrap goes on, so they are invisible and cannot be knocked loose. On a wrapped box that means the position is fixed at drawing stage.
Two smaller magnets spaced apart usually hold a lid straighter than one large one in the centre.
Magnet against clasp against hinge
A magnet gives a clean line and holds a lid in transit. A clasp is visible and survives rough handling better. A scored or metal hinge does a different job again — it controls how the lid opens rather than whether it stays shut.
Many boxes use a hinge and a magnet together, which is the usual specification for a box that is posted.
Shipping rules
Magnets in freight have rules attached, and they apply to the shipment rather than to the box. We handle that on our side, but it is a reason to specify a magnetic closure at quotation rather than adding it late.
What can go wrong
A magnet set too close to the edge shows as a bump through a thin wrap. A magnet reversed in assembly repels instead of holding. Both are caught at sample stage, which is the reason the sample exists.
