Leatherette Slip-Lid Boxes

Slip-lid boxes in leatherette (pu), made to your dimensions and your logo. Leatherette is manufactured to a consistent thickness, which makes it the most predictable material for a slip-lid fit. Where the tolerance has to hold across a large run, this is the combination we would propose.

What this construction is

A slip-lid box is two separate pieces: a base and a lid that slides down over it. There is no hinge and nothing to break, and the lid can be lifted straight off so the piece is seen with nothing behind it.

Leatherette (PU) on this construction, specifically

Leatherette is manufactured to a consistent thickness, which makes it the most predictable material for a slip-lid fit. Where the tolerance has to hold across a large run, this is the combination we would propose.

Getting the fit right

The fit between lid and base is the whole specification. Too tight and the customer struggles; too loose and the lid comes off in a bag. The tolerance is small and it changes with the thickness of the covering, which is why it is set on a physical sample rather than on a drawing.

The mistake to avoid

Wrapping a slip-lid in a thick material without adjusting the base is the standard error. The lid then will not go down, and the fix is a new die rather than an adjustment.

Where it is used

Posted goods, premium presentation and anywhere the box has to look the same from every side. It is also the construction that stacks best in storage.

Why leatherette (pu)

Leatherette is a polyurethane skin over a woven backing. It gives the grain and the weight of leather at a consistent colour, batch to batch — which matters when a jeweller is reordering a house box for years.

Putting your logo on leatherette (pu)

Leatherette is the most forgiving surface for a logo. Hot-stamp, blind deboss and metal plate all sit well on it, and a fine typeface holds its detail.

Cutting the interior in leatherette (pu)

The skin is wrapped over a rigid shell, so corners stay square and the lid closes on a defined line rather than a soft one.

Wipe with a barely damp cloth. Avoid solvent cleaners, which can lift the surface.
