Seating a pair
Two seats, level with each other, close enough to read as one object. Set too far apart the pair looks like two single pieces; set touching, the faces can rub.
The gap is a presentation decision as much as a protective one, and it is worth seeing on a sample.
The fitting behind the face
A T-bar, a chain link or a whale-back all project behind the face. The seat has to accommodate that or the cufflink sits at an angle and the faces do not line up.
The usual answer is a recess or a slot under each seat that swallows the fitting, leaving the face flat and level.
Dress sets
A dress set adds studs to the pair. That is a tray with two cufflink seats and four or six stud seats, laid out so the set is read as a group.
The layout is drawn to the set, and it is worth deciding whether the studs sit in a row or around the links.
Materials
Cufflinks are a menswear category and the boxes usually follow: calf, saffiano, charcoal suede, lacquered wood. Bright colours are rare, and a plate or a blind deboss is the more common logo treatment than a bright foil.
