Depth is the whole problem
A plain bracelet is a few millimetres deep. The same bracelet with charms can be three times that, and the depth varies along its length.
Measure at the deepest point with the charms hanging as they naturally fall. That is the clearance the lid needs.
Tangling
Charms catch on each other when the bracelet moves. A channel that holds the bracelet in a gentle arc, rather than a flat well, keeps the charms hanging in one direction.
For a heavily charmed bracelet, a wider channel does more than a deeper one.
A collection grows
Charm customers come back. A box sized exactly to today's bracelet will not close in two years.
Where the box is a gift with the bracelet, size it generously; where it is a display box, size it to the range you stock.
Presenting single charms
Retailers selling charms individually usually want a small format for the charm alone — a card, a pouch or a compact box. That is a separate specification from the bracelet box and they are usually ordered together.
