Microfibre Suede Clamshell Boxes

Clamshell boxes in microfibre suede, made to your dimensions and your logo. A suede lid pad is firmer than velvet and holds a heavier piece steady from above. For a watch or a heavy bangle shipping in a clamshell, that firmness is what stops movement.

What this construction is

A clamshell is a hinged box where the lid and base are the same depth and meet at the middle, so the piece sits in one half and the other closes over it. It is the most protective small-box construction there is.

Microfibre suede on this construction, specifically

A suede lid pad is firmer than velvet and holds a heavier piece steady from above. For a watch or a heavy bangle shipping in a clamshell, that firmness is what stops movement.

Getting the fit right

Because both halves are deep, the interior can hold a piece from both sides — a pad in the lid pressing gently onto the piece in the base. That is what stops movement in transit without a tight seat.

The mistake to avoid

A lid pad that presses too hard marks a soft stone or an enamel. The pad has to be sized to touch and not to clamp, and that is set on the sample with the actual piece in it.

Where it is used

Pieces that ship rather than pieces that sit on a counter, and anything fragile enough that movement inside the box is the main risk.

Why microfibre suede

Microfibre suede is a woven synthetic with a short, dense nap. It has the hand of real suede without the shading and water-marking that real suede brings, and it does not shed onto a polished piece.

Putting your logo on microfibre suede

Suede takes a hot-stamped or blind-debossed logo cleanly, because the nap compresses and holds the impression. Fine serifs need a slightly heavier die than they would on board, or the nap springs back and softens the edge.

Cutting the interior in microfibre suede

Inserts are cut a fraction under size on each face; the pile closes the gap and grips the piece without a visible squeeze.

Brush with the nap, never against it. Marks from a fingernail lift with a soft brush. It does not craze or crack with age.

Frequently asked questions

Is microfibre suede a good choice for a clamshell box?

A suede lid pad is firmer than velvet and holds a heavier piece steady from above. For a watch or a heavy bangle shipping in a clamshell, that firmness is what stops movement.

How does microfibre suede wear on this construction?

Brush with the nap, never against it. Marks from a fingernail lift with a soft brush. It does not craze or crack with age.

Can it be made in our colour?

Yes — the microfibre suede is matched to a Pantone reference or a physical swatch, and confirmed on a sample.

What logo methods suit microfibre suede?

Suede takes a hot-stamped or blind-debossed logo cleanly, because the nap compresses and holds the impression. Fine serifs need a slightly heavier die than they would on board, or the nap springs back and softens the edge.

Can I see it before ordering?

Yes. A physical pre-production sample is made to your specification and the bulk run is held to the sample you approve.
