Grey Lacquer Jewellery Boxes

Grey lacquer boxes, made to your dimensions and your logo. Grey lacquer reads as stone rather than as paint if the finish is matte, and as plastic if it is gloss. This is one colour where the finish decision matters more than the colour decision.

Grey in lacquer, specifically

Grey lacquer reads as stone rather than as paint if the finish is matte, and as plastic if it is gloss. This is one colour where the finish decision matters more than the colour decision.

What grey does for the piece

Grey has almost no colour of its own, so it lets a stone's colour carry. It is the safest neutral ground for coloured stones and it photographs more honestly than any tinted lining.

What grey shows

Little, and what it does show reads as texture rather than dirt. A cool grey flatters platinum; a warm grey flatters gold, and choosing the wrong one against your range is the usual mistake.

Which metals and stones grey suits

Platinum and white metals in a cool grey, yellow gold in a warm one, and coloured stones in either.

Why lacquered wood

A wood carcass built up in layers of lacquer and polished back to a piano finish. This is the heaviest and most formal thing we make.

Putting your logo on lacquered wood

Lacquer is engraved, or carries an inlaid metal plate. Foil does not bond reliably to a polished lacquer surface.

Cutting the interior in lacquered wood

The interior is a separate lined tray dropped into the carcass, so the lining material is chosen independently of the shell.

Dust with a dry microfibre cloth. Polish only with a product made for lacquer.
