Rigid Board Window Boxes

Window boxes in rigid board, made to your dimensions and your logo. The standard window box. Printed board with a clear panel behind a die-cut aperture is cheap, light and effective, and it is what most retail window boxes actually are.

What this construction is

A window box has a clear panel set into the lid, so the piece is visible without the box being opened. It changes what the packaging is for — the box becomes part of the display rather than something that hides the piece until the sale.

Rigid board on this construction, specifically

The standard window box. Printed board with a clear panel behind a die-cut aperture is cheap, light and effective, and it is what most retail window boxes actually are.

Getting the fit right

The aperture has to frame the piece, not the interior. An opening cut to the box rather than to what sits in it shows a lot of lining and a small piece lost in the middle of it, which is worse than no window at all.

The mistake to avoid

The clear panel is the part that scratches, and it scratches in storage before it ever reaches a customer. An interleaf between boxes in the carton is what prevents it, and it has to be asked for.

Where it is used

Self-service retail, online fulfilment where the box is opened on camera, and any counter where stock is browsed rather than brought out by an assistant.

Why rigid board

Board wrapped in paper or textured stock. The lightest and most shippable of the constructions, and the one that gives the widest colour and texture range.

Putting your logo on rigid board

Board is the best surface of all for print. Foil, deboss, spot varnish and flat colour all work, and fine typography holds.

Cutting the interior in rigid board

A board box is built around its insert; the insert is usually a die-cut foam or board platform wrapped in the lining material.

Keep dry. Board recovers from a light knock better than lacquer, but a wet mark is permanent.
