What a ring boxe has to do
A ring box holds a single ring upright in a fitted slot so the stone faces the customer when the lid opens. Two covered pads sit side by side with a cut between them; the ring is pushed down into the cut and the foam closes on the shank under its own spring.

The measurement most often left out is the height of the setting. A raised solitaire needs clearance under the lid, and without it the lid presses on the stone.

Velvet marks with handling. On an exterior it will show thumbprints; if the box is going to be stacked or bagged, keep the velvet inside and use a harder material outside.

Velvet does not hold a hot-stamp the way board or leatherette does. A metal plate, or a lid card, is the more reliable way to carry a logo on a velvet exterior.
