What a ring boxe has to do
A ring box holds a single ring upright in a fitted slot so the stone faces the customer when the lid opens. Two covered pads sit side by side with a cut between them; the ring is pushed down into the cut and the foam closes on the shank under its own spring.
Why Bordeaux Velvet
A black interior makes a stone read brighter than ivory does — there is nothing around it to reflect. Bordeaux outside gives the formality without going to black.
Getting the interior right
The cut is set to the widest shank the box has to take. A slot cut for a 1.5 mm band will not seat a 4 mm signet, and a slot cut for the signet lets the band lie over. Give both extremes if the box covers a range.

The mistake to avoid
The measurement most often left out is the height of the setting. A raised solitaire needs clearance under the lid, and without it the lid presses on the stone.

Dark on dark hides the piece if the display is poorly lit. This box needs a light on it.

Velvet does not hold a hot-stamp the way board or leatherette does. A metal plate, or a lid card, is the more reliable way to carry a logo on a velvet exterior.
